● OPPO is taking a leading role in developing and promoting the industry-unifying connectivity standard Matter with other CSA members.
October 19, 2021, SHENZHEN – Today, global tech brand OPPO and the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) have announced that OPPO will take up a position on the Alliance’s Board of Directors with immediate effect. As part of its new role, OPPO will become a core member of the Alliance, where it will take a leading role in the development of industry-unifying Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity protocol, Matter, and will lead the promotion of the protocol in China.
Developed and maintained by the CSA, Matter is the foundation for connected things, offering a simplified user experience for connecting different IoT devices. As a member of the CSA’s Board, OPPO will make significant contributions to the Matter Working Group to create a highly compatible IoT ecosystem, boosting the development of the Alliance’s protocol together with partners through the proposal of new protocols, setting of new standards, and the development of new prototype products based on Matter. OPPO will adopt the Alliance’s technologies into its own IoT ecosystem and products, and will work on promoting the CSA in China and beyond to help further transform the future of connectivity. OPPO will also expand its cooperation with other CSA members to deliver reliable, secure and seamless multi-scenario convergent IoT experiences to users.
“We are delighted and honored to join the CSA Board of Directors to drive the development of Matter and create enhanced user experiences for our IoT products,” said Neil Yang, Director of Standards Research Department at OPPO. “We will lend our global expertise in IoT and marketing across over 50 countries to promote Matter in China and beyond. Together with the CSA and its members, we will shape the future of the IoT alongside our commitment to building IoT products that deliver better services to all users.”
“With OPPO on our Board of Directors, the unprecedented collaboration between our two sides will be a driving force in our mission to build a more intuitive, imaginative, and useful world,” said Tobin Richardson, President and CEO of CSA. “OPPO’s position on the Board will also be key to promoting Matter in China and throughout Asia, offering us the opportunity to provide improved IoT experiences to over a billion users.”
Formerly known as the Zigbee Alliance, the Connectivity Standards Alliance was established in 2002. As the foundation and future of the IoT, its wide-ranging global membership is made up of over 400 companies and 23 board members. For almost two decades, CSA members have been working together to simplify and increase compatibility in the IoT through technology standards. Among these, Matter is a unified and secure IP-based connectivity protocol built on proven technologies, helping connect and build a reliable, secure IoT ecosystem, and achieve seamless connectivity among a wide range of smart devices.
Moving towards our mission of “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World,” OPPO believes we should bring the benefits to users, and leave all the complexity to us. With the evolution of 5G, OPPO has been investing in developing an IoT ecosystem that delivers a convergent user experience. As a leader in 5G, OPPO has developed a series of ground-breaking technologies. In 2015, OPPO established a 5G standardization team and deployed its new 5G standards in over 20 countries and regions worldwide. OPPO has submitted more than 3,000 5G standard-related proposals to 3GPP and declared over 1,000 families of 5G standard patents to the ETSI. To date, OPPO IoT ecosystem has attracted over 30 likeminded partners, and its IoT series includes smart TVs, wearables, audio devices and other accessories to that bring the latest technology to users worldwide.
Aiming to bring seamless connectivity and advanced IoT experiences to everyone, OPPO will continue to deepen its involvement with the CSA and the global IoT community to develop an open and sustainable IoT ecosystem.
